Settled on a great granitic batholith, the city of Trujillo emerges over the Cáceres penillanura, constituting a privileged hill from where it dominates a wide landscape of granitic berrocales, oak meadows, riverbeds and pseudo-steppe. Undoubtedly a magnificent enclave inhabited since prehistoric times and throughout its process of consolidation and historical evolution, both in Roman times(Turgalium), as in the Arab(Taryala) and medieval(Truxillo).
From its castle (former Arab Alcazaba) standing at the top of this magnificent city, we will see the numerous medieval palaces of great beauty and architectural value (such as those of San Carlos, the Orellana Toledo or the Marquis of the Conquest) accompanied by the incomparable towers of its churches (such as Santa Maria). All of them architectural pieces that we will know through a tour through narrow irregular streets while we tell stories of nobility and conquest carved in stone.
Every corner of Trujillo that we will show you is a chronicle of legend where feudal lords, influential nobles, members of the most powerful military orders and majestic monarchs such as the Catholic Monarchs, left their mark making this location an extraordinary place.
And extraordinary, of course, is its Plaza Mayor, the best known place in Trujillo with the famous equestrian statue of Francisco Pizarro, the conqueror of Peru. A square originally occupied by artisans and merchants of the Great Free Market granted in the late fourteenth century by Henry IV, and today is dotted with bars and restaurants where at the end of the visit you can taste the culinary delights of Extremadura’s gastronomy.
In addition, you can also do with us a route through the Berrocal de Trujillo.
