In the municipality of Talaván, located in the geographical area known as “Los Cuatro Lugares” (The Four Places) next to Monroy, Santiago del Campo and Hinojal, very close to the Monfragüe National Park, is the Global Nature Foundation’s “El Baldío” Farm.
A 232-hectare farm where the Foundation maintains herds of native breeds such as the Cáceres white cow, the black Merino sheep and different breeds of hens in danger of extinction (Castilian black, Andalusian partridge, Castilian quail and Extremadura).
Verdehesa offers you the opportunity to visit the farm and learn about this lesser-known genetic heritage of native livestock breeds perfectly adapted to the dehesa and that have historically contributed to the configuration of this agro-silvo-pastoral system.
The farm is also used as a space for research and demonstration of how livestock management can combine nature conservation and production under animal welfare parameters. For this reason, you will also be able to learn about many other actions to promote and protect biodiversity that are carried out here.
A fascinating and very educational tour of a private pasture, which will also contribute to the conservation of its values, because part of the profits from your visit will be donated by Verdehesa to the Global Nature Foundation.
We also offer the possibility of enjoying a tasting of local products in “El Baldío”. Ask us about options and dates.
We can offer you special prices if you also book other ecotourism or cultural tours with Verdehesa. Ask us for more information with no obligation by email, phone or WhatsApp!
