Extremadura is the main wintering area for Common Cranes in the Iberian Peninsula, with annual numbers exceeding 120,000 individuals, with the Vegas Altas del Guadiana area holding around 50% of the Extremadura population.
From Verdehesa we organize a tour through this area of the Vegas Altas, where you can observe and photograph hundreds of Common Cranes feeding mainly in the rice fields and other irrigated lands, but also in the pastures, where the consumption of acorns allows them to obtain energy for the migratory journey that towards the end of January and February they start to their breeding countries in northern Europe.
An itinerary through the towns of Zorita, Campo Lugar, Puebla de Alcollarín, Madrigalejo, etc., in which you will also visit large reservoirs full of waterfowl such as the one at Sierra Bravaor El Cubilar and you will know the Dehesa de Moheda Alta” Periurban Conservation and Recreation Park of Navalvillar de Pela dedicated entirely to the crane and the pasture.
A route that will end with an unforgettable sunset of incandescent skies with silhouettes and songs of cranes on their way to their roosts!
It will be determined according to the client’s interests and origin.
The rates correspond to visits of 6-7 hours approx. in the morning or afternoon.
