Monfragüe is one of the most important protected natural areas in Spain and, probably, in Europe. In Extremadura, to speak of Monfragüe is to speak of Mediterranean forest and vultures, rivers and rocks, nature and life… and also of shepherds, pastures, sheep and villages. The high geographical complexity of Monfragüe, with disparate ecosystems, natural and semi-natural, serves to be very numerous fauna of interest that is found in it, especially birds, as here you will find the best area in the world for the observation of black vulture and griffon vulture (with censuses close to 300 and 700 pairs respectively), and one of the best in Spain for the Egyptian vulture, the black stork and the Iberian imperial eagle. In few places in the world will you find such a high density of these species in such a relatively small space. A more relevant fact if we consider that unlike other natural areas, here we will easily show you some of these valuable species, without being disturbed or interfere in their activity, but with a physical and real proximity hardly imaginable and comparable.
But Monfragüe also has important historical and artistic resources of high cultural value, such as the Castle of Monfragüe, a privileged viewpoint from which you can contemplate the sea of oaks, cork oaks and wild olive trees of the Biosphere Reserve surrounding the National Park.
As you can see, if you visit Extremadura and you like nature, you cannot miss the visit to the only National Park in Extremadura, where we will take you to the main scenic viewpoints and ornithological observation points and visit some of the nature interpretation and visitor reception centers located in the towns of Villarreal de San Carlos, Malpartida de Plasencia, Serradilla or Torrejón el Rubio.
